The Challenge

The client's Google Ads account was in disarray. It was running almost entirely on Google's "auto-apply" recommendations, which led to major inefficiencies. Ad groups contained hundreds of unrelated keywords, conversion tracking was broken due to an iframe form, and a significant portion of the budget was being wasted on bot clicks and low-quality traffic, resulting in very few qualified leads.

My Solution

A complete account overhaul was necessary. I started by disabling all auto-apply recommendations to regain control and then implemented a multi-faceted recovery plan.

  • Technical & Tracking Overhaul: The first step was to fix the data foundation. I worked with their developer to replace the problematic iframe form and implemented direct, reliable conversion tracking. This immediately provided clear insight into which clicks were actually turning into leads.
  • Thematic Account Restructure: I paused the old campaigns and rebuilt the account from scratch. The massive, disorganized ad groups were broken down into small, tightly-themed groups (e.g., "Custom Home Builders," "New Construction," "Luxury Home Plans"), ensuring high relevance between keywords, ads, and landing pages.
  • Traffic Quality Control: I implemented advanced location targeting and built an extensive negative keyword list to filter out irrelevant searches and eliminate bot traffic. This ensured that their ad budget was spent only on reaching potential customers in their target market.
